Stress and Disease

Suppressed Symptoms Eventually Lead to Chronic Disease

Our bodies are designed to balance themselves from internal and external stresses. This is called homeostasis. When we are faced with danger/threat, our innate “fight or flight’ system responds by releasing hormones into our bloodstream in order for our heartbeat to quicken to divert blood from our vital organs to our muscles for a fight or quick getaway.

Unfortunately, in our modern world, the body recognizes STRESS as DISTRESS. Thus “fight or flight” is activated continuously instead of only when appropriate. Over time the body systems which should be sharing the load and working as a team, have to overcompensate for systems that are fatigued and deficient due to overload.

This is when SYMPTOMS/SIGNALS start appearing to notify us that changes to the way we are living our lives need to be made. Unfortunately, most of us are “too busy/ don’t have the time” to listen to our bodies, so we SUPPRESS the symptoms with pain killers, drugs, shopping or eating anything to distract us. This does not take the symptom AWAY. It hides it deeper or manifests it as a new symptom/ signal to alert us to the disharmony.
