Allergies
Allergy Testing and Treatment
Food sensitivities can occur at any time and at any age. Often brought about by stress, hormonal changes, over-consumption of one particular food over time…and many other reasons.
In addition to physical complaints such as stomach trouble and headaches, symptoms such as depression and mood swings may be strongly linked to foods eaten and vitamin/mineral deficiencies.
Testing can be carried out in various ways. Non-invasive kinesiology (muscle testing) is included in your consultation.
Hair, blood, stool and saliva laboratory testing is also available at an additional cost.
Using applied kinesiology over 280 foods and common chemicals can be tested in addition to checking for Candida Albicans overgrowth, bacteria, viruses, parasites, vaccination side effects, toxic metals, and more!
Alongside advice and recommendations to improve your diet and fit in with your lifestyle, desensitisation remedies for your food allergies can be prescribed, along with homeopathic or herbal remedies for viruses and pathogens like candida.
Each consultation includes:
-
- Analysis of health questionnaires prior to your first consultation
-
- In-depth one to one consultation
-
- A comprehensive written report of testing results, dietary recommendations, supplements advised and fact sheets as necessary
- Email / telephone support (within reason) until the recommended follow-up appointment
Methods of Testing
Kinesiology
The method of allergy testing used is Applied Kinesiology. This form of testing is very accurate and entails muscle testing using the energy flows of the acupuncture meridians.
Although we are using the meridians, we do not need to use needles, therefore the experience is pleasant and painless, making it useful for testing babies, children, the elderly, people of a nervous disposition, and the results are immediate.
Autonomic Response Testing
ART was developed by Dietrich Klinghardt and is a system which identifies the state of health of the autonomic response nervous system and the coherence of the biophoton field, a method that extends beyond the limits of the normal medical information-gathering using the physical exam, lab work or imaging techniques. ART is a magical extension of the physical exam.
The ART systematically explores, evaluates and challenges the 7 most common stressors or “factors” of our current life that prevent our natural ability to stay healthy or heal from illness.
The philosophy – there is more to us than we see. We co-exist on several “levels” of reality. Wellness is the combined perception of health on each level.
This method is useful for more complex health conditions and has lead to practitioners around the world to achieve better results with less.
Hair, Blood, Stool Testing
Hair, blood and stool tests are also available, at an additional cost, and are sent to out recommended laboratories for in-depth analysis with a full comprehensive written report explained to you on your return consultation.
Food & Chemical Desensitisation
As one Doctor so rightly put it “I have never seen so many cases of malnutrition as a result of dieting to relieve an allergy problem!”. Desensitisation whenever possible would seem to be preferable.
Food intolerance symptoms can be surprisingly varied:
-
- Catarrh
-
- Digestive and stomach trouble
-
- Backache
-
- Swollen glands
-
- Depression
-
- Anxiety attacks and phobias
-
- Palpitations
-
- Irritability
-
- Headaches
-
- Mouth ulcers
-
- Aching joints and muscles
- Childhood hyperactivity
As well the above, more serious conditions are also possible. Because onset of symptoms are often delayed, they seem to bear no relationship to diet at all, so it is not surprising that many allergic people have had a variety of tests, diagnoses and treatments, and are often told they are suffering from stress, hypochondria or ‘nerves’.
Chemical Allergies, often referred to as chemical sensitivities are also much more common than many people believe. Today we are exposed to an increasing number of chemicals without being aware of the fact that chemicals are in the air that we breathe, both indoors and outdoors, in our food, as colours, flavour enhancers and preservatives. In our drinks and drinking water.
Chemicals are also in our workplaces and our homes, affecting our health. Problems present themselves when overload takes place, where the overload is so great, or the chemical so unusual that the body has not yet learned to deal with it and sensitivities develop.
Whilst avoidance of these common materials is the best way to deal with them, desensitisation is often the only option open to us in order to stay healthy.”
Allergy Treatment via Desensitisation
Whilst it is appreciated that there are many forms of allergy testing available, few therapists are able to offer treatment other than total avoidance of the suspected allergen. This is not difficult if the offending substance happens to be pheasant, lobster or crab for example, but can you be absolutely certain of avoiding preservatives, additives, food colourings, wheat, soya, eggs etc. And it is not a very practical solution if the offending allergen happens to be pollen, car exhaust fumes, house dust mites or formaldehyde.
The practitioner only remedies that I will prescribe to you in the treatment method are prepared by The British Institute of Allergy & Environmental Therapy, by homeopathic pharmaceutical techniques and can be used safely and effectively by you as a patient. The treatment is given by mouth and is free from side effects, involves no restrictive diets and is very tolerable to you as a patient. Alcohol-free versions are also available for children.
Allergy and Immunology
In addition to food and chemical sensitivities, as a trained Allergy & Immunology Therapist with The British Institute of Allergy & Environmental Therapy, I am also able to address the below conditions, some of which surprisingly could be as a result from allergies:
-
- Asthma
-
- Arthritis
-
- Adrenal fatigue
-
- ADHD
-
- Bacteria infections
-
- Candida
-
- Cystitis
-
- Eczema & Dermatitis
-
- Fibromyalgia
-
- Insomnia
-
- Fungal infestations
-
- Giardia Lambia
-
- Glandular Fever (Epstein Barr Virus)
-
- Hayfever
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- ME/CFS
- Menopause
- Mycoplasma infections
- Mercury/Amalgam Toxicity
- Physical & Emotional Conditions
- Parasites
- Sinusitis
- Skin problems
- Thrush
- Thyroid problems
- Vaccination side effects (see below)
- Stress
- Periodontal disease
- Tooth infections
- Rhinitis
By identifying and addressing the root cause, rather than symptoms, this helps the body establish balance and gives the body an opportunity to begin to heal.
For this reason, I will always include a full allergy test in your initial consultation, carried out by kinesiology (muscle testing).
Functional Lab testing
Lab testing is also available at an additional cost. This method of testing can help decipher the specific mechanism of your body’s actions, and help you discover the underlying issues that drive disease or dysfunction. Using a wide variety of different available testing through several capable labs, we can utilise testing to specifically analyse the following:
- Hormone Profiles to determine Levels, Function, & Metabolism
- Mineral Excess & Deficiency via Hair Mineral Analysis
- Liver Function & Detoxification processes
- Specific Pathogenic enquiries using Breath, Blood, Urine or Stool samples
- Monitoring of Immune status and specific conditions
- Genetic Testing for Inherited Disorders or Disease
If you would like to discuss any of the above conditions further, I do offer an initial free, no obligation 10 minute consultation by telephone to talk you through how I could help.
Some examples are below:
ADHD
People with ADHD will often test positive for various food allergies, nutritional deficiencies and possible chemical toxicity. By desensitising the allergies present, removing any toxins and following a specific diet, along with addressing any nutritional deficiencies, inflammation in the brain can be greatly reduced and improvement of neurological function can be seen in just a short space of time.
Eczema
Eczema can be a very distressing condition not only for babies and small children but also for adults. A big improvement can be made by a combination of specific homeopathic nosodes and desensitisation to allergies. Eczema often starts during weaning, when the baby is first introduced to cows’ milk and formula products and can disappear after a single treatment particularly in the very young. Sometimes gentle non-allergic herbal creams can bring some relief while the treatment takes place.
What about Menopause?
Homeopathic remedies taken orally and herbal skin creams rubbed into the abdomen can be prescribed to ease menopausal symptoms, as well as adrenal support to balance and nourish the hormone system. Recommendations will also be made on diet and life style.
Vaccinations
If you or your child are experiencing any side effects from vaccinations or you are simply concerned about the possible side effects from vaccinations, homeopathic protection can be prescribed to help alleviate the symptoms.
(IBS) Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Unfortunately, Irritable bowel syndrome has become an increasingly common diagnosis and because it is not associated with a general deterioration in physical health, and it presents with multiple symptomatology, it tends to be treated lightly by an overworked medical profession, once life-threatening illness has been ruled out.
Fortunately IBS can be successfully treated and of course, apart from allergies, the possibility of Candida albicans, Small Intestine Bowel Overgrowth, infestation and other parasites (i.e. Giardia) must be considered.
IBS will present with some or all of the following symptoms:
-
- Abdominal pain or spasm. Gripping and cramping aches, often triggered by food and usually most severe about two hours after eating.
-
- Variability of bowel function, between the extremes of diarrhoea and constipation, often with explosive diarrhoea and resulting “accidents” as much wind is also passed.
-
- Pain in the rectum, often with a moist sore anus caused by a non-functioning Houston’s valve (a common symptom of candidasis).
-
- Abdominal bloating and belching.
-
- Indigestion, and inability to finish meals.
-
- Trapped wind, becoming more intense during the day.
-
- Increased rumbling bowel sounds.
-
- Nausea.
-
- Vomiting.
-
- Backache.
-
- Pain during and after sexual intercourse.
-
- Feeling that the bladder is constantly full.
-
- Tiredness.
- Frequent passing of normal stools.
Parasites have been mentioned above, and it is possible that they may be present in a patient’s water supply. A recent visit to a country where the water supply may be suspect shortly before the onset of the condition could be a possible cause.
A patient may have also been exposed to toxic bacteria in food (Campylobacter, Shigella, Clostridia and others) and the patient’s occupation, for instance, farming, meat processing, food preparation, handling of animals and pets, should be considered.
Candida
Candida albicans, a yeast-like organism, is important in allergic conditions, yet often goes undiagnosed. It is best known as thrush in the mouth or the vagina.
However, C. albicans is responsible or involved in far more ailments than thrush. Candida is a single celled organism, but when conditions are favourable for it, it changes into a “pseudomycelial” form, strand like and branching. This enables it to penetrate the bowel wall and spread through the body.
Candida is found to be responsible in some cases of anxiety and depression, “spaced-out feelings”, urinary problems and joint pain. These conditions respond to treatment as soon as the Candida had been eliminated. Candida is able to invade the whole body, having been found in the heart and the liver. Candida has also been found in muscles that are so inflamed and tender to the touch that they cannot be massaged, and coughs that seem to be intractable.
C. Albicans is now accepted medically to be responsible in cases of muscular fatigue, bowel problems, respiratory and sinus problems, poor short-term memory, “brain fog”, some cases of eczema and psoriasis, in addition to bowel problems.
Candida thrives in individuals whose immune system is compromised by infection, allergy and antibiotic use; it benefits from high levels of refined sugar and salt in the gastro-intestinal tract and indeed, apart from the conditions mentioned above, a person can actually be allergic to the yeast itself. It has been estimated that most of the population carries antibodies to Candida.
Treatment usually involves giving homeopathic Candida drops or herbal remedies for a few weeks, in conjunction with a good probiotic to repopulate the gut with good bacteria, which compete with the Candida. A sugar free diet is also required for the duration of treatment and it is advisable to treat other allergies, which may be exacerbating the problem.
Protozoa & Parasites
Protozoa are single-celled organisms of various types. The majority are water-borne and infect humans through drinking contaminated water. Once infected Protozoa can then be spread through direct contact from person to person, from your hands to food or via your pets.
Typical examples of Protozoan infections would be:
Toxoplasma Gondii
One of the most common human parasites; often from eating undercooked pork; also soil, water and food contaminated with faeces from infected animals (particularly cats); may be sexually transmitted in humans. Up to a third of the global population has been exposed to and may be chronically infected with it, although infection rates differ significantly from country to country. Toxoplasmosis & Acute Toxoplasmosis is often asymptomatic in healthy adults, but symptoms may occur and are often influenza-like (swollen lymph nodes, or muscle aches and pains that last for a month or more), it may also cause subtle behavioural or personality changes. Infection with the parasite is associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and also suicides.
Giardia Lamblia
The most common pathogenic parasitic infection in humans worldwide; one of the most common parasites infecting cats, dogs and birds. Infection can occur through contaminated water and food, or by the faecal-oral route through poor hygiene practices; symptoms include weakness in the body, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, loose or watery stools, stomach cramps, upset stomach, projectile vomiting, bloating, excessive gas, and burping but may be asymptomatic.
Entamoeba Gingivalis
Found near the base of the teeth, and in periodontal pockets in 95% of people with gum disease; rarely found in people with healthy gums; transmission is direct from one person to another by kissing, or by sharing eating utensils.
Parasites are commonly acquired by eating contaminated meat. Swallowing eggs on food, contaminating fingers with faecal material or through contact with infected water.
Typical examples of Parasitic infections would be:
Blastocystis Hominis
A common microscopic parasitic organism found throughout the world causing watery or loose stools, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, anal itching, weight loss, and excess gas.
Dwarf Tapeworm
A particular problem in humans in areas of high population density and close contact, and where sanitary conditions are poor; most common tapeworm worldwide. Often no symptoms, can cause headaches, dizziness, anorexia, abdominal pain, diarrhoea.
Dirofilaria Immitis, Microfilariae
A parasitic roundworm that is spread from host to host through the bites of mosquitoes; definitive host is the dog, but it can also infect cats, wolves, coyotes, foxes and other animals and under very rare circumstances, humans. (Microfilariae are live young that circulate in the bloodstream for as long as two years, waiting for the next stage in their life cycles in the gut of a bloodsucking mosquito.)
How I treat Protozoa and Parasites
After initial muscle testing with a range of pathogens to confirm that you have been infected with a specific parasite, a homeopathic treatment plan is then put together, alongside any other remedies needed to support your organs.
Chronic Fatigue/ME
What is chronic fatigue?
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) causes persistent fatigue or exhaustion, that cuts across your life and doesn’t go away with sleep or rest.
CFS is also known as ME, which stands for myalgic encephalomyelitis. Myalgia means muscle pain and encephalomyelitis means inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.
CFS is a serious condition that can cause long-term illness and disability, but many people – particularly children and young people – improve over time.
Who is affected?
It is estimated that around 250,000 people in the UK have CFS.
Anyone can get CFS, although it is more common in women than in men. It usually develops in the early 20s to mid-40s. Children can also be affected, usually between the ages of 13 and 15.
Symptoms of chronic fatigue?
Symptoms vary from person to person, and from day to day.
Fatigue: physical and mental exhaustion, that does not go away with sleep or rest. It can feel overwhelming. It can be worse after exercise, but the effect might be delayed. With severe chronic fatigue patients might be bed-bound and find the simplest tasks difficult or impossible.
Other symptoms:
-
- Muscular pain, joint pain and severe headaches
-
- Poor short-term memory and concentration, and difficulty organising thoughts and finding the right words (‘brain fog’)
-
- Painful lymph nodes (small glands of the immune system)
-
- Stomach pain and other problems similar to irritable bowel syndrome, such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and nausea
-
- Sore throat
-
- Sleeping problems, such as insomnia and feeling that sleep is not refreshing
-
- Sensitivity or intolerance to light, loud noise, alcohol and certain foods
- Psychological difficulties, such as depression, irritability and panic attacks
Less common symptoms:
- Dizziness, excess sweating, balance problems and difficulty controlling body temperature
What causes chronic fatigue?
Exactly what causes chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is unknown, but there are several theories.
Some experts think a viral infection such as glandular fever can trigger the condition.
However, not all cases of chronic fatigue start after an infection and the condition sometimes develops gradually. I have seen patients test positive to candida, which is known to cause tiredness and other chronic fatigue symptoms. This generally indicates a compromised immune system.
Chronic fatigue is also common after an intensely stressful time, for example a divorce, a serious accident or a situation of conflict, which can lead onto adrenal fatigue.
Other medically suggested causes include:
-
- A hormone imbalance
-
- Leaky Gut Syndrome
-
- Chemical or Metal Toxicity
-
- A virus, for example Epstein Barr (Glandular Fever)
- Genes – some people may have an inherited tendency to develop chronic fatigue, as it is more common in some families
How I treat chronic fatigue:
Kinesiology for chronic fatigue
I will initially muscle test body organs for signs of imbalance and then test for all pathogens, including post virus, candida and parasites. Food allergies and chemical sensitivities (including Mercury/Amalgam Toxicity) will also then be ruled out. If nothing is presenting itself in our initial consultation, we can investigate other causes i.e. liver function and detoxification processes or genetic testing for inherited disorders, via blood, urine and saliva samples, at an additional cost.
The choice of frequency therapy, homeopathic or herbal remedies can be used if there are organ imbalances, allergies or pathogens found.
Nutrition for chronic fatigue
Depending on the outcome of the initial testing I will advise a suitable diet to follow which may include a list of foods to avoid, and perhaps supplements to take.
What can I expect?
Treating chronic fatigue has to be done gently and is not an overnight fix, however improvement can be seen in time and I know this from my own experience!
Lyme Disease
“An uncovered endemic”
Unfortunately quite a high percentage of my clients test positive for Lyme Disease. “An uncovered endemic” as one doctor very rightly said to me a few years ago.
If you have ever been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, suffer from severe fatigue, heart arrhythmia, migraines, swollen legs, ankles or feet there is a high percentage you are a carrier of Lyme.
There are over 61 different strains of Lyme. 14 different Babesia species, 24 different Bartonella species, 21 different Borrellia species and 2 ehrilichia species, all of which I have testing phials for. Then there are also the common co-infections which can include: Mycoplasma’s, Chlamydia’s, Streptococcus’s and more.
Lyme isn’t always a straightforward treatment process in that lots of other factors need to be taken into consideration when addressing this disease.
First I would test and work with all the body organs to ensure the elimination pathways are all functioning at a high percent i.e. your Thyroid, Liver and Kidney’s. We would also need to adjust your diet temporarily.
Then we would need to take into consideration Parasites. Parasites more often than not carry Lyme inside them, so if we address the Lyme first, then eventually it will reappear as the parasites will keep releasing bacteria’s and protozoa’s into the body. Hence why so many people fail to recover after a course of antibiotics.
Once we have addressed the above we can then carefully work with which ever strains and co-infections are present, aiming toward a full recovery.
Lyme is a very misunderstood disease in that it isn’t always transferred by a tick bite! It can also be transferred by mosquito bites, flea bites, infected milk and meat.
If you carry a Babesia species this can also be transferred sexually and passed down from Mother to child. (All Protozoa’s are very contagious from what I have seen in my practice, especially between family members).
Lyme Symptoms:
Lyme tends to come in 3 different phases:
Stage 1:
Symptoms of early localised Lyme disease begin days or weeks after infection. They are similar to the Flu and may include:
-
- Body wide itching
-
- Chills
-
- Fever
-
- General Ill Feeling
-
- Headaches
-
- Light Headiness
-
- Fainting
-
- Muscle Pain
- Stiff Neck
Stage 2:
Symptoms of early disseminated Lyme disease begin weeks to months after infection and can include:
-
- Heart problems such as Skipped Heartbeats
-
- Muscle pain and or swelling in the knees and joints
- Paralysis or weakness in the muscles of the face
Stage 3:
Symptoms of late disseminated Lyme can occur months or years after the initial infection. Most common symptoms can include severe fatigue, muscle and joint pain. Other symptoms can include:
-
- Numbness and Tingling in Arms, Hands and Feet
-
- Muscle weakness
-
- Speech problems
- Wide Spread Body Pain
